Description

WHMIS is a comprehensive system for providing health and safety information on hazardous products intended for use, handling or storage in Canadian workplaces.  There are many hazardous chemicals and materials used in the roadbuilding and heavy construction industries.  This course introduces the WHMIS system, its pictograms and labelling standards to the learner to provide critical knowledge to recognize the dangers that hazardous materials can cause without taking the necessary precautions.   The function of the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) to provide the information required to safely use and store controlled products, and how to respond if an emergency occurs is discussed using a detailed example of a SDS.   At the completion of the course, the learner will understand how to use the WHMIS system to work safely with chemicals on the work site.

This e-learning course is intended as an introduction to WHMIS for anyone who works in the road building or heavy construction industries.  It is meant to be used in conjunction with employer led training on the hazardous products in use at the learner's work site . The course content includes real worksite video with key concepts and terms reinforced by text and imagery, interactive graphics and quizzes throughout based on on-the-job scenarios.  There is a final exam with an 80% pass rate required to complete the course and obtain the certificate.
